SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY, EDWARDSVILLE

Portfolio Standards Student Support System

Interface design for the Portfolio Standards Student Support System: a set of web tools for student teachers intended to integrate the state of Illinois' Core Technology Standards for all teachers into an easy-to-use environment for student portfolio creation. The system was designed to give teacher candidates the building blocks they would need in order to succeed in creating teacher portfolios that reflect their understanding of the standards, as well as showcase their ability to integrate technology successfully into their teaching approach.

Designed for the university's School of Education to fit inside their resident learning management system - WebCT, the Portfolio Standards Student Support System serves preservice teachers and their faculty in SIUE’s Partnerships program. The site gives students resources and information about integrating technology into their classroom teaching within the context of constructivist teaching methods and Illinois’s State Teacher Standards. It also gives students tools and instruction for creating their teaching portfolios electronically using a 3rd-party WSYWIG browser-based HTML editor, integrated into the site. This newly launched site is not accessible by the public.
